Our Company

Odea helps leaders, teams, and HR professionals enable change, build organizational capability, and drive results.

Odea is an organization development practice that is all about providing clients different thinking to enable different results for their leaders, teams, and organizations.

Our different thinking is a mash up of strategic thinking and systems thinking with a healthy helping of behavioral science added into the mix.  We focus on identifying systemic conditions that constrain performance potential, helping clients see beyond symptoms to structural causes, leading to enduring solutions.

Working across industries and sectors, our business clients include CNO Financial Services, Badger Daylighting, ISACA, GRAEF, FedEx, and Best Transportation.  Non-profit clients have included Fox Valley Hospice, Boys and Girls Club of Elgin, P.A.D.S. of Elgin, the Illinois Council of Orchestras, and SOS Children’s Village of Illinois.

Our Consulting Approach

1.

We swim in hard data but dive into soft data. Context is most helpful when it includes perceptions, feelings, and opinions along with the hard metrics.

2.

We stay in our lane, keeping your lane wide open for you. We own the quality of our advice, counsel and facilitations; you own the issues, decisions, and results. We are consultants, not managers. You lead, we assist.

3.

We are your dance partner. We believe you already have good answers; we also believe our different thinking can make them great. So our work together is more about learning and discovery than it is about us prescribing corrective actions.

4.

We see and respect your organization as a complex system. This translates into taking a broad, holistic view when working issues. Cause and effect are separated in time and space; enabling change and building capability often involve actions that are surprisingly different or counter intuitive.

5.

We don’t shy away from the hard conversation. It may be sad, but it’s true – we are often the cause of our problems. You are better off knowing, but who is going to level with you? We will, without an agenda, and without judgment.

6.

We embed the science of change in everything we do. The Nike “just do it!” approach doesn’t work. Real change needs to be enabled.

7.

We play the long game. Quick fixes are inevitably fixes that fail. Unless a quick fix is a strategic maneuver to buy needed time or build momentum, we resist treating symptoms for temporary relief. We seek to enable your success over time and through change.
